Minot adds flights and opportunity to the region
A combination of economy, demand and community cooperation has broadened the horizon for air travel in and out of Minot.
Minot International Airport will now have nine departures to three hub cities. Delta Airlines expanded its current flights, and United Airlines added flights to Minot. On May 3, Delta added a daily flight between Minot and Salt Lake City with a second flight beginning June 10. Delta also added new flights to Minneapolis, and United Airlines will bring two daily flights connecting Minot to Denver beginning June 9.
After years of lobbying for more flights and expanded air service, Minot International Airport director Andrew Solsvig says the timing of the enhanced service resulted from a combination of positive trends: Minot’s importance in the booming energy industry, the economic health and growth of the area, and the concerted efforts of the entire community.
The new flights mean Minot now has access to three hub cities: Minneapolis, Salt Lake City and Denver. This access, along with the new west-bound flights, exponentially expands travel options for the people of the region. Such options enhance travel opportunities in and out of Minot. “With three airlines now serving Minot, we are well positioned to support the growth of our community and the businesses in it. This all around is a great thing for Minot and the entire area,” says Minot Chamber Board Chair, Terry Zeltinger. “We will see a more competitive environment, which ultimately may result in better fares,”
The Minot Area Chamber of Commerce is encouraging the community of Minot to support travel out of Minot in order to keep the flights. For more information visit www.WhyFlyMinot.com and sign up for regular updates and news from the Minot International Airport.
